Canine & Feline Vaccines - Info
Guidelines & info from veterinary practice authorities
The following sources provide some information to pet owners as well as practitioners. The BCVMA is aware that differing opinions and lines of thought exist on various issues relating to vaccines. The BCVMA does not set specific rules regarding the use and administration of vaccines. Advice on whether and what vaccines should be adminstered to an animal, and in what region of the body, is a matter that is for each veterinarian to determine in their medical judgment, given all of the circumstances of the particular case before them. Every case is unique. Thus, it would not be appropriate or practicable for the BCVMA as the veterinary regulatory body to attempt to prescribe to veterinarians in advance how they will deal with the cases before them. Such decisions are matters of medical judgment and their exercise is the practice of veterinary medicine.
2006 Canine Vaccine Guidelines are available from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). See: www.aahanet.org for the general AAHA site. The guidelines are available as a 28 page PDF document; see: www.aahanet.org/PublicDocuments/VaccineGuidelines06Revised.pdf.
2006 Feline Vaccine Guidelines are set out in the 2006 Feline Vaccine Advisory Panel Report, from the American Association of Feline Practitioners, at www.aafponline.org/resources/practice_guidelines.htm.
